Just a couple of weeks after venturing to our first Sunday evening trivia night, we headed to Bucktown Pub for our first Thursday night trivia outing. Apparently, we’ve caught Star Trek fever and have been boldly going where (and when) we’ve never gone before.
Now it might be the 3 beers I had during trivia, or the 2 beers I drank over dinner at the Fifty/50 beforehand, or perhaps the free shots we won at the end of the night, but I think Bucktown Pub is the happiest place on Earth. Here’s my evidence: 1.) You can bring your dog to the bar! 2.) Free popcorn! 3.) Matilda on tap! 4.) Camaraderie! Team Gym Slut, our neighbors, always advocated for us when we got an answer wrong. 5.) Tamale man! The bar doesn’t serve food but a nice man comes in and sells tamales. You can also order pizza. 6.) Good team names! I thought Team Gym Slut was pretty funny and another of our neighboring teams was Team Night Cheese. They either read our blog or love 30 Rock. That makes them pretty awesome in my book.
Thursday night specials are Tecate and tequila for $6. Trivia is advertised as starting at 8pm, but last night it didn’t start until 8:30pm. Still, it’s good to get there early because the bar really fills up. Trivia consisted of 4 rounds: a general knowledge round, a picture round, a grab bag round (this week it was about state slogans), and finally a current events round worth double points. Tip: there were a lot of medical questions in the general knowledge round, so if you don’t have any medical professionals on your team you might want to watch a couple episodes of Scrubs before hand.
First place wins a round of drinks and a round of shots. Second place wins a round of shots. Our team, Team Motherlovers, took home second place and Team Gym Slut won first place. They had a slight advantage because there were about a billion people on their team, but we’re willing to overlook it because they were so nice to us.

Final verdict? Easy parking, good beer selection, fun trivia, free popcorn. I’d definitely go back to Bucktown Pub!
