We tend to be rather Northside-centric, so we were glad to head down to the South Loop to Grace O’Mallye’s trivia night on Thursday. The night was emceed by Jeremy, trivia host extraordinaire who hosts at Rebel and a couple of other places around town. Jeremy hosted a pretty raucous trivia night, which was interesting to us because we found him to be very chill and kind of quiet when he hosted at Rebel. The point is, the man’s got versatility. Check out his trivia nights and see what side of Jeremy comes out.
Specials on Thursday nights include 1/2 price bottles of wine, $5 cherry bombs and O bombs, $5 chicken caesar wraps, and $1 mini burgers. The specials were all pretty tasty and affordable, so I wouldn’t recommend even looking at the rest of the menu as the prices are a bit higher than at your standard trivia bar. 3 of my teammates split 21 mini-burgers between themselves. Way to go, gentlemen. If only our trivia knowledge was as expansive as your stomachs.

There was a lot going on last week: Ted Kennedy died, Milton Bradley whined, & the USA won the Little League World Series (America rules!). Still, we couldn’t come up with a good team name to save our lives, so we decided to be the Torsos, taking our name from the first round of trivia in which we had to name famous men based on pictures of their rock hard abs.

This guy has never eaten a miniburger in his life.
The rounds last Thursday were:
1) Name that shirtless hunk
2) Name the 4th (If you were given John, Paul, and George, you’d name Ringo)
3) An audio round based on all jam bands
4) Basic cable tv dramas
5) Famous NFLers’ alma maters
There was a good variety and a good mix of hard and easy questions. I’m a strong believer that jam bands aren’t enjoyable unless you are on drugs (and even then, they better be some really good drugs), but I still enjoyed the audio round’s mix of obvious (Phish) and obscure (Ekoostic Hookah?).
On a personal note, it was the first time we’ve had the whole team together in a couple of weeks. We have jobs and families and cats(!) so it’s been pretty hard to get all five of us together. It was nice to see you, team. Congrats on expanding your family/getting to the next stage in your career/passing your big important test/being married for 5 *consecutive* years!
