We’ve said it before, and we’ve said it again, we’re not huge fans of the Team Trivia format. That being said, we’d go back to Riverview Tavern.
Trivia starts at 7:30pm and you should probably get there by 7 if you want to get a table. There’s plenty of parking on Damen or Roscoe if you get there early enough.
The specials are pretty standard: $3 Bud Light drafts or $18 buckets of Bud or Bud Light, and maybe Mich Ultra(?), bottles, and in April, $3 Shock Top. Let it be said, as far as logos go, Shock Top’s is formidable:
No, you are not imagining things…it is in fact an orange slice wearing sunglasses and a wheat mohawk. And wheat eyebrows. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Anyway, the trivia is pretty standard to Team Trivia…6 rounds, 3 questions each, you wager on points, one song per question, final 15-point question, etc. What really makes Riverview’s trivia stand out is the DJ. He’s a little bit DJ Mike (minus maybe 15 years) and a little bit Ryan Seacrest (master of suspense!).
No Here Comes Treble trivia outing is complete without something shady to complain about (ahem, Brownstone Trivia Tournament). At Riverview, in one round, the team that scores 100% wins a bucket of beer. In case of a tie, the eligible teams each send a representative to the DJ to answer a tie-breaker question. Here’s where it gets shady. In our tie-breaker, the first person to turn in his answer got it wrong. Then, instead of taking answers in the order that the remaining team reps finished writing, the DJ took the answers counter-clockwise, so the first person to his right who knew the answer won the prize. WTF?
Other than that, not too bad. And because it started early, we were out of there by 9:45pm, so we had the rest of the night to bask in the glory of our win. No, we didn’t win first place (2 tickets to see Kevin Rudolf at House of Blues and a zip-up jacket). Talk about destroying team unity trying to decide who got those prizes. We legitimately won our second tie-breaker of the evening to win 3rd place: 2 tickets to see Dr. Dog at the Double Door, a free pizza at Robie Pizza Company, and assorted March Madness beads and bottle openers.

Jealous?
